Things to do in Asheville this weekend: a live list of concerts, comedy, games and shows across Buncombe County, plus a local's plan for Friday night through Sunday.
Here is what's happening in Asheville this weekend, pulled from the venues' own calendars and refreshed every morning, lunchtime and evening. Every row has a Tickets button that goes to the venue's own ticketing page, so the price and the "sold out" are the venue's, not ours. If you want the list for a different weekend, pick dates with Ashe or jump to comedy, live music, sports or theatre.
Friday night: a show
Asheville's weekend starts at a venue. The big rooms downtown all book Fridays: The Orange Peel on Biltmore Avenue for touring rock, indie and hip-hop, Eulogy on the South Slope for the heavier and stranger end of things, Revival on Asheland Avenue for indie, and Asheville Music Hall on Patton Avenue for jam, funk and late nights. Across the river, The Grey Eagle is the all-ages room for Americana, bluegrass and folk, with a taqueria attached so dinner and the show are one stop. The biggest tours land at Harrah's Cherokee Center, whose Thomas Wolfe Auditorium and arena share the same box office on Haywood Street.
If you'd rather laugh, Asheville comedy is produced rather than housed in one club. Modelface Comedy books touring and local comics into rooms around town most weekends, Disclaimer Comedy runs a weekly showcase downtown, and the purple LaZoom bus does a city tour with a comedian at the mic. The live comedy list is short enough to read in full:
Comedy this weekend
Comedy at The Funk: Matty Ryan
Wicked Weed Funkatorium, South Slope
The Misfit Improv Comedy Show Halloween Special
NC Stage Company, Downtown
Comedy at The Funk: Dark Jokes
Wicked Weed Funkatorium, South Slope
Modelface Comedy presents Dark Jokes
Modelface Comedy pop-up (location on ticket), Downtown
Haunted Higgins, Halloween Comedy w/ Chris Higgins
French Broad River Brewery, Biltmore Village
No ticket, no problem. Jack of the Wood on Patton Avenue puts a band on at 9 most Fridays for a small door cover, and in the warm months the Friday drum circle in Pritchard Park starts around dinnertime and costs nothing. More on that in the live music tonight guide.

Saturday daytime: markets, the river and the Parkway
Start early. The Asheville City Market sets up downtown on Saturday mornings most of the year with farm stands, bakers and music, and the WNC Farmers Market on Brevard Road is the year-round, drive-up version with produce sheds and a couple of restaurants.
Then pick one of three directions:
- The River Arts District. Working studios in old industrial buildings along the French Broad, most of them open on Saturdays and happy to let you watch. The buildings up the hill on Roberts and Depot streets are the busiest since the 2024 flood; the riverfront blocks are still rebuilding. The RAD artists' site has a map, and the Grey Eagle and Wedge Brewing are right there when you're done.
- The Blue Ridge Parkway. The Asheville stretch has the Parkway Visitor Center with a short film and a trail map, the free Folk Art Center at milepost 382 with craft galleries and demonstrations, and, half an hour north, Craggy Gardens for the easiest big view near town. The road closes in ice and the overlooks disappear into cloud on wet days, so check conditions first.
- Downtown on foot. The Grove Arcade, Malaprop's bookstore, the glassblowing demos at Lexington Glassworks, the Basilica of Saint Lawrence and the Asheville Art Museum on Pack Square are all within ten minutes of each other.
In baseball season (April through September) a Saturday afternoon game at HomeTrust Park, the old McCormick Field, is the cheapest big outing in town. Through the winter, UNC Asheville basketball at Kimmel Arena fills the same slot.
Saturday night: dinner and a second show
Saturday is the fullest night on the calendar, which means two things: buy tickets ahead for anything you care about, and book dinner. Downtown reservations go early on weekends; West Asheville's Haywood Road strip is easier to walk into. For a Saturday that's a date rather than a show, the date night guide has the romantic version; for a proper night out, the nightlife guide covers cocktail bars, late food and the South Slope taprooms.
The reliable Saturday-night rooms beyond the big clubs: Fleetwood's in West Asheville for loud, cheap and local; Hotel Eve Jazz Club, a basement on North Lexington with a quartet most weekend nights; and White Horse Black Mountain, a listening room fifteen miles east where the audience actually listens.
Want just Saturday?
Ask Ashe about Saturday nightSunday: the slow version
Sunday is when Asheville is at its best and least crowded. Jack of the Wood has bluegrass around lunch and a traditional Irish session in the afternoon, no cover. Pisgah Brewing in Black Mountain runs a Sunday jam that's a local institution. Breweries with lawns, Highland Brewing out east and Sierra Nevada in Mills River (just over the county line, and the one exception we make), often have a free afternoon set in season.
Outdoors, the Botanical Gardens at Asheville by the UNC Asheville campus is free and takes an hour; Beaver Lake on Merrimon Avenue is a flat loop with a boardwalk; and Lake Tomahawk in Black Mountain is the postcard walk. Biltmore is a whole day and sells out on holiday weekends, so book a house entry time rather than hoping.

This weekend with kids
The family version of the weekend lives in its own guide, Asheville family events this weekend, but the short list: the Asheville Museum of Science and the Pinball Museum downtown, the WNC Nature Center for red wolves and otters, a Tourists game in season, and any show in the listings tagged all ages. Ask Ashe for "family events this weekend" and she filters the list down.
Family-friendly this weekend
Spooky: What’s Shaking? Kid’s Music & Dance Party
The Mule at Devil's Foot, South Asheville
This weekend for adults
Stand-up at a Modelface show, a late set at Asheville Music Hall, a Saturday brewery crawl along Coxe and Buxton avenues on the South Slope, and the Sunday Irish session to recover. Ashe tags listings 18+ and 21+ when the venue says so; ask for "21 and up this weekend" to see only those.
If it rains
Asheville rain is usually a few hours, not a weekend, and nearly everything in the listings is indoors anyway: the theatres, the comedy rooms, the concert halls, the college gyms. The museums and the Grove Arcade cover the afternoon; the rainy-day guide has twenty ideas sorted by mood.
Downtown, West Asheville or the River Arts District?
| Where | Best for | Parking | Walkable from |
|---|---|---|---|
| Downtown | The big shows, comedy, museums, Saturday market | City garages (Rankin Ave, Wall St, Biltmore Ave); street spots free after 6 pm | Everything downtown |
| South Slope | Breweries, Eulogy, Wicked Weed | Street and small lots on Coxe and Buxton | Downtown, ten minutes |
| River Arts District | Studios, the Grey Eagle, Wedge | Lots by the studios; road work ongoing | Not from downtown; drive or rideshare |
| West Asheville | Fleetwood's, the Double Crown, cheap dinner | Street parking on Haywood Rd side streets | Up and down Haywood Rd |
How this list stays current
Ashe reads the venues' own calendars, the college athletics schedules and the regional event listings three times a day, removes the duplicates, and keeps only Buncombe County. If a show is missing, it's usually because the venue hasn't posted it yet; the all venues page shows what each one has coming up. For the longer version of a weekend here, see the Asheville weekend itinerary.
If you only do one thing: pick a Friday show from the list at the top, buy the ticket now, and build the rest of the weekend around it. Everything else in this town is a short walk or a short drive from a venue.
Want the list for your dates?
Ask Ashe what's on this weekendFrequently asked questions
What is there to do in Asheville this weekend?
The list at the top of this page is the live answer: concerts, comedy, college games, theatre and festivals across Buncombe County, refreshed three times a day. Beyond ticketed events, Saturday has the downtown farmers market and the River Arts District studios, and Sunday has free jams at Jack of the Wood and Pisgah Brewing.
What is there to do in downtown Asheville this weekend?
Downtown holds the big music rooms (The Orange Peel, Eulogy, Revival, Asheville Music Hall), most of the comedy, three theatres, the museums, the Grove Arcade and the Saturday City Market. Park once in a city garage and walk; street parking is free after 6 pm.
Is Asheville busy on weekends?
Yes, especially in October and around holidays. Saturday-night shows and dinner reservations go early, and Biltmore sells out house entry times. Sunday is noticeably quieter, which is why locals save the Parkway and the breweries for it.
What can you do in Asheville this weekend with kids?
The Asheville Museum of Science, the Pinball Museum, the WNC Nature Center, a Tourists baseball game in season and any listing marked all ages. Ask Ashe for "family events this weekend" to filter the live list.
Are there free things to do in Asheville this weekend?
Plenty: the Folk Art Center, the Botanical Gardens, the Saturday market, brewery shows at Highland and Sierra Nevada in season, the Friday drum circle in summer and the Sunday sessions at Jack of the Wood. The free page lists this weekend's free events.
What time do shows start in Asheville?
Most club shows have doors around 7 or 8 pm and start an hour later; theatre is usually 7:30 pm with weekend matinees. The listings show the start time the venue posted, and "TBA" means the venue hasn't posted one yet.
